Healthy & Delicious Homemade Fruit Juice & Smoothie Recipes For Little Ones

Just like milk, fruit juice is synonymous with childhood. There’s always a juice box in a kid’s hand, in their lunch boxes, at parties and even at mealtime but why buy store-bought juices when you can easily make some delicious fruit juice, as fresh as fresh can be and all from the comfort of your very own home. Fresh homemade juice is a healthier option compared to store-bought ones, and dare we say it, tastier too! Fruit juices are great for fussy eaters, it provides your little ones with essential nutrients needed for their body. We’ve got some delicious fruit juice combos and smoothie recipes that both you and your little ones will devour. 

Tips to get your kids interested in juicing:

  • Get your little ones involved in the juicing process. Bring them along with you to the supermarket and let them explore the fruit aisle, have them pick a few that interests them. Juicers can be dangerous especially when operated by a little one so it’s better to have them sit this out until they’re a little older. They’ll get a kick out of watching fruits go in as a solid and come out as a liquid. 
  • Start with fruits that are colourful and sweeter, work up to green vegetables by incorporating them with fruits your little one already favours.
  • Water down juices and smoothies that may be too intense in flavour, a thinner consistency is easier to get down as to that of thicker consistencies.
  • A heavy-duty juicer makes smooth juices without any little bits but go ahead and strain the end product to get an extra smooth consistency.
  • Cold juices are both refreshing and delicious so be sure to pop it the refrigerator before serving.
  • Use colourful glasses, bendy straws, fruit garnishes and maybe even throw in those cute paper umbrellas to entice your little ones.

Berry Red Beet Juice

This delicious mix of beets, strawberries, and oranges will give your little ones a boost of energy throughout the entire day!

Ingredients:

  • 2 beets
  • 8 strawberries
  • 1 lemon 

Method:

  • Rinse the beets, strawberries and lemon under some running water
  • Remove the leaves off the strawberries, slice up the beets and lemon
  • Run the strawberries and beets through a juicer
  • Squeeze in all of the lemon juice into the mix
  • Refrigerate and serve cold

Apple, Carrot, Orange & Ginger Juice

If your tots are not ready for a blend of veggie juice and green juices tend to make them run to hills, this recipe is one way of tricking them into actually enjoying veggie juices. Sweet creamy carrots paired with crisp apples make for a kid-approved veggie juice!

Ingredients:

  • 2 large carrots
  • 1 orange, peeled
  • 1 apple
  • a knob of ginger or turmeric

Method:

  • Peel the carrots and ginger, rinse the produce
  • Run the carrots, ginger and apple through the juicer 
  • If the ginger may be too intense for your little one, skip on it
  • Squeeze the entire orange’s juice into the mix
  • Refrigerate and serve

Strawberry-Apple Juice

Delicious and gorgeous in colour, your little ones will love the combination of sweet flavours!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups strawberries
  • 1 Red Delicious apple

Method:

  • Peel the apple and rinse the produce
  • Slice the apple and be sure to remove the core
  • Remove the leaves off the strawberries
  • Run the ingredients through a juicer
  • Refrigerate and serve

Breakfast smoothie

Breakfast in a cup!

Ingredients:

  • 1 small banana
  • 1 cup of blackberries, blueberries, raspberries or strawberries (or use a mix of all three berries)
  • apple juice or milk
  • 1/2 cup of instant oatmeal

Method:

  • Cook the instant oatmeal in hot water
  • Throw in the berries and banana into the blender
  • Add in the cooked oats in the blender 
  • Blitz away
  • Add apple juice or milk to thin out the consistency

Mango lassi

A deliciously creamy and delectable Indian delicacy, beat the heat with a cup of this! Your little ones will definitely enjoy this treat. 

Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe mangoes
  • 1 cup of natural yoghurt
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 limes
  • A pinch of salt

Method:

  • Peel and cut the mangoes into cubes
  • Throw the mangoes into the blender along with the yoghurt
  • Blitz away
  • Add the honey and the salt
  • Squeeze the limes into the blender
  • Blitz again
  • If the consistency is too thick, add in some water
  • Serve chilled

Raspberry and apple smoothie

Sweet with a hint of sour! Who would’ve thought that raspberries paired up perfectly with Granny Smith apples?

Ingredients:

  • 2 Granny Smith apples
  • 1/2 cup of frozen raspberries
  • 1/2 cup of natural yoghurt
  • 2 tablespoons of instant oats
  • ½ lemon
  • 1/4 cup of milk

Method:

  • Core and peel the apples and wash the produce
  • Cook the oats with hot water
  • Tip the apples, oats, raspberries and yoghurt into the blender
  • Blitz!
  • Pour in some lemon juice
  • Blitz again
  • If the consistency is too thick, add in the milk
  • Serve chilled

Carrot and orange smoothie

Get your tot’s day ready with a vibrant orange juice, featuring oranges and carrots. 

Ingredients:

  •  2 carrots
  • 2 oranges (juiced)
  • 1/2 cup of natural yoghurt
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 2 tablespoon of oats
  • Ice

Method:

  • Run the carrots through a juicer
  • Add the carrot juice into a blender along with the orange juice, yoghurt and milk
  • Cook the oats in hot water and add them to the blender as well
  • Go ahead and blend them together
  • Serve with ice

Banana, honey & hazelnut smoothie

A scrumptious smoothie that’s free of dairy, making a filling breakfast drink that will fuel your little ones up all day.

Ingredients:

  •  1 banana
  • 1 cup of soya milk
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • nutmeg, grated 
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped hazelnuts

Method:

  • Blend the banana, soya milk, honey
  • Add in a dash of grated nutmeg
  • Blitz until all the ingredients are mixed together well
  • Throw the chopped hazelnuts on a frying pan and toast them for a bit
  • Sprinkle them onto the smoothie when its time to serve

Kale smoothie

Give your little ones a delicious dose of vitamin C in the morning with this green smoothie, it’s both healthy and delicious. 

Ingredients:

  • 2 handfuls of kale
  • ½ avocado
  • ½ lime (juiced)
  • 1/2 cup of frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1 banana

Method:

  • Throw in the kale, avocado, banana, pineapple and chunks into the blender
  • Add the lime juice
  • Blitz them together
  • Add water or milk to thin out the consistency
  • Garnish with pineapple slices
  • Serve chilled
