Unleash your child’s inner Bob Ross. Look into crafting activities that both you and child can partake in, such as the art of origami folding. Not being able to go outside can make us feel cooped up, children being restricted from outdoor playtime can cause agitation from all their energy being bottled up. Being trapped indoors with little to no physical activity can affect a child’s emotional health, and here are some fun indoor activities that you can involve your child to engage in so they’ll tire out for bedtime.
Monster Tissue Box
Why throw away empty tissue boxes when you can give it to your little ones to customize and then use it again, having fun while being environmentally friendly. Your little one will feel a sense of pride and accomplishment when they see their work of art being put into good use.
Things you’ll need:
- An empty tissue box
- Scissors
- Googly eyes
- Watercolour
- Coloured paper
- White drawing paper or cardboard
- Marker
How to do it:
Begin by cutting the slit of the tissue box into a large mouth-like circle to the size of your liking, depends if you’re making a happy or an angry monster. Get your watercolours out and paint inside of the box red, so it looks like the inside of a mouth, then paint the outside whatever colour you want your monster to be! Make sure to let it dry completely before moving on to the next step. Use the marker to outline the mouth area; cut the white drawing paper into triangles to make teeth for your monster; glue them onto the top and bottom of the monster’s mouth. Stick on the googly eyes; you can do just the one or go crazy and stick a bunch on to make your monster as scary as possible.
Note: Get your toddler a pair of child-safe scissors to avoid any injuries and cuts
Slime
Slime is taking over the world, we’ve stumbled upon ASMR videos and how-to videos on slime, and we can’t deny how satisfying it is to knead into a handful of slime. We’re going to show you how to make slime that your little ones can do that is chemical free and safe.
Things you’ll need:
- Washable clear glue
- ½ teaspoon of Baking soda
- Contact-lens solution
- Glitter
- The scent of your choice
- Food coloring
- Baby oil
How to do it:
Get a large bowl at the ready, pour in the entire bottle of the glue, and half a teaspoon of baking soda. Add in one drop of food coloring into the glue-baking soda concoction and stir it up with a spatula, using your hands to mix it up can get really messy and will leave you in a sticky situation, literally. Throw in some glitter to make your slime sparkle and the scent of your choice, then add in 2 tablespoons of the contact lens solution and stir away. You will notice the mixture coming together and turning into the slime consistency you’re looking for, add a little more of the contact lens solution if it’s not coming together well. The final step is to add some of the baby oil and work the slime with your hands. Voila! Your very own chemical-free DIY slime!
