Are you expecting a little one soon? What other way is there than to introduce your precious bundle of joy with a gender reveal party. A gender reveal party is when friends and family come together to find out the baby’s gender and celebrate the little one, parents of the baby can experience the surprising reveal too by getting a friend or family to disclose the reveal. Gender reveal parties are not for everyone, and conflicting views are on the uprise toward these parties. As we hear an echoing roar of “The baby’s gender shouldn’t matter.’ As much importance as those words possess, a gender reveal party can be less of a conflict if the baby is and should be celebrated anyways regardless of the revealed gender (which most of the time, is the case). The statement ‘pink is for girls and blue is for boys’ may be controversial, use words as the reveal instead. Friends and family members are definitely curious and let’s face it, parents themselves are itching to know as much as they can about their little dearest who is soon to enter this world. Just like baby showers, a gender reveal party is just another celebration to embrace the baby. If you’re one to overlook the controversies of a gender reveal party, then we have some great gender reveal party ideas for you, from the extravagant to personal shindigs.
Scratch-Off Vouchers

Pass these around at the party, and at the end of a countdown, get everyone at the party to scratch the card, which will reveal the gender of the baby. It’s easy to DIY these scratch-off vouchers, or you can order them. You can even keep them as a remembrance of the celebratory day. With the circuit-breaker still at hand, these are great for relatives and friends living in different parts of the country or the world; mail it to them so they too can be involved in the reveal.
Bath Bombs

Gender reveal bath bombs are perfect for both personal reveals or at parties. Who doesn’t love bath bombs! Whether taking a bath in one or just staring at its beautiful mosaic of colours fizzing into the waters, it’s a great way to introduce your precious one.
How to make your very own DIY gender reveal bath bomb:
- 1 and 1/2 cups of baking soda
- 3/4 cups of citric acid
- A tablespoon of cornstarch
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of sweet almond oil
- The scent of your choice (oil form)
- A bath bomb mould
- Glycerin colouring
Put the baking soda, citric acid, and cornstarch into a bowl and mix it with your fingers (same technique when making cookies). Add the sweet almond oil and the scented oil; we would suggest one that would smell very baby-like such as baby powder scent. Mix it with your fingers again, add more sweet almond oil if the mixture isn’t setting well (it has to moist enough to clump together). Place the mixture into the mould, make an indentation in the middle, and add a few drops of glycerin colouring. Clamp the mould tightly, unveil the bath bomb and leave it overnight to set. When the white gender reveal bath bomb is dropped into water, it will fizz, and once it reaches the centre, the colour will be revealed, changing the water’s colour.
If you’re a DIY queen or king, make these gender reveal bath bombs at home, it’ll add to the experience, but if you’d rather save yourself from the hassle, you can order them and custom-make them online or at stores.
Pinatas

It’s not a party without a pinata! Fill a pinata with confetti or candy that will reveal the gender, get each guest to have a go at the pinata.
Sports Themed Gender Reveal

The initial idea being baseball, but as Singaporeans, the game that unites is football, or you can go with any sport that involves a ball getting in aggressive contact. Let each guest take a swing at the coloured powder filled balls or a kick at it. To keep the anticipation going, get white powder fill balls and let guests have a go at them until the real ball with the reveal colour unveils itself with a bang!
Paint Filled Guns

Pick up a bunch of water guns, replace the ‘water part’ of the gun with paint, and lots of it. When it’s reveal time, hand the guns around and at a countdown, let them go ham at each other or the parents. Guests will have a great time, everyone gets to be involved in the special moment, and they’ll have the time of their lives. This particular gender reveal party idea should take place at an outdoor venue with buckets of water at the ready. Be sure to use body paint or skin-safe paint, and to avoid spraying the face, nobody wants a mouth full of paint on a memorable day.
Gender Reveal Cake

There’s bound to be a cake at the party, so why not unfold the reveal with a cake. You can either do it as a cutting ceremony and unveil the cake’s hidden colour or hand over slices around to the guests and wait for them to notice the colour of the cake they’re eating, they won’t see it coming (provided they’re unaware it’s a gender reveal party beforehand.) Cut back on the expenses by making the cake yourself. All you have to do its add the reveal colour in the buttercream icing that’ll be inside the cake or in the cake batter itself, but be sure to cover up the entire cake with white or a neutral-coloured frosting.
Fireworks

Want to throw an extravagant gender reveal party? Fireworks are the way to go! Get some custom-made fireworks and set it off at the party; guests will celebrate as they gaze in awe. Just be sure that the fireworks are set off in a legal place and at a time that isn’t intrusive. Remember to stay a safe distance from the action and, if possible, to have a licensed pyrotechnician at the scene to avoid any injuries.
