5 Natural Teething Recipes For Your Baby

Teething can be a trying time for both parent and baby, teething is when teeth start to emerge from your baby’s gums; it usually occurs from ages 6 months to 24 months. Symptoms tend to vary depending on the infant; for some, they get by the entire teething phase with no fuss, but other infants are faced with enduring symptoms that weigh down the negative side of the scale. The initial symptom to take notice of is when your baby is continually bringing hands to the mouth in an attempt to subside the discomfort. Other symptoms include irritability, tender or swollen gums, increased drooling, and fussiness. The symptoms may worsen, such as restlessness, refusing to eat, and even lack of sleep from aching gums. With the quarantine at hand, leaving the house to pick up products to soothe your baby’s teething discomfort is out of the question, especially with most stores being closed. Buying baby teething products and toys are redundant when there are many natural teething remedies and DIY teething products. If your baby is teething, then you might want to give these natural teething recipes that will soothe your baby’s discomfort in an instant, and it’ll even save you a buck.

Strawberry Breast Milk Popsicles

You will need:

  • 4 cups of breast milk
  • Baby-safe Popsicle mold
  • 2 cups of frozen strawberries
  • Blender
  • Fine mesh sieve

Directions:

  • Add the breast milk and frozen strawberries into a blender
  • Blend the ingredients until they become a smooth and creamy smoothie-like mixture
  • Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to avoid choking hazards
  • Pour the strained mixture into the Popsicle mold
  • Freeze overnight or for a minimum of 3 hours
  • Serve your baby

Quick Tip

  • If you do not have a baby-safe Popsicle mold at hand, pour the mixture into an empty ice tray and serve them using a mesh feeder instead.

Important Note

  • Be sure to use a mold that is baby safe; they’re designed shorter and rounder to prevent any possible choking hazards.
  • Thaw the Popsicle out for a bit before serving to your baby to avoid frostbite gums.

The cold Popsicle numbs the gums and causes a temporary relief towards inflamed gums; you can skip the added fruit altogether or use a different variety of fruits and veggies even. These Popsicles are an all-natural and healthy remedy to soothing teething aches; it also works as a little snack for the little one.

Chamomile Ice Cubes

You will need:

  • 1 chamomile tea bag
  • Hot water
  • Ice cube tray
  • 1/2 cup of breast milk

Directions:

  • Infuse a bag of chamomile tea in half a cup of boiling water for 15 minutes
  • Add the breast milk
  • Pour the mixture into the ice cube tray
  • Freeze for 3 hours  
  • Serve with a mesh feeder or rub the ice cubes on your baby’s gums.

Important Note

  • Thaw the ice cubes out to avoid frostbite.

Chamomile is a mild relaxant and also contains anti-inflammatory properties that will ease the symptoms of teething. The cold temperature for the chamomile tea cubes will also bring relief.  

Teething Biscuits

You will need:

  • 2 cups of dry oats
  • 1 large banana
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Directions:

  • Blend the oats into a powder
  • Throw in the banana, coconut oil and vanilla extract into the blender
  • Blend until it becomes a dough
  • Knead the dough with a little flour
  • Divide into sections and roll them out into round like shapes (Avoid shapes with sharp edges)
  • Place them on a baking sheet
  • Bake them on each side for 10 minutes at 350 degrees
  • Leave them aside to cool
  • Serve

Quick Tip

  • Add more coconut oil if the dough happens to be too dry.
  • Make batches and store in an airtight container, lasts up to a month.

Biting on these hard but melt-in-your-mouth cookies will cause the gums to feel pressure, this slight pressure will ease and soothe the pain. Blueberry Melt-Away Yogurt Drops

You will need:

  • 1 cup of natural Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup of blueberries
  • 3 tablespoons of breast milk
  • Blender
  • Fine mesh sieve
  • Piping Bag

Directions:

  • Thaw the frozen blueberries
  • Place them into the blender along with the breast milk
  • Blend until it turns into a smooth consistency
  • Mix the fruit mixture into the yogurt
  • Spoon the fruit-yogurt mix into a piping bag
  • Pipe tiny droplets onto a baking sheet placed over a sturdy tray
  • Drop them in the freezer for a minimum of 2 hours or overnight to solidify well
  • Remove the yogurt drops and store them in the freezer – They can be stored for up to 4 months

  • Use a resealable bag and cut off the tiniest piece on one edge of the bag – Poof! Your very own DIY piping bag.

These yummy little goodies are great as a cold little treat that will keep your baby’s teething discomfort and pain away. They melt pretty quickly, and these tiny sized treats are not hazardous to choking. Swap blueberries with other fruits, you can even make rainbow-colored drops using a whole array of fruits. They’re so delicious that you’d be tempted to pop a few into your mouth too!

Frozen Apple with Banana-Butter Dipping Sauce 

You will need:

  • 1 whole apple, red or green  
  • 1 small banana
  • 1 tablespoon of smooth peanut butter
  • 3 tablespoons of breast milk
  • Blender

Directions:

  • Peel, core and cut the apple into large slices
  • Freeze them for 2 hours
  • Add the banana, peanut butter, and breast milk into a blender
  • Blend them until a smooth but thick consistency is achieved, add more peanut butter if the mixture is too thin
  • Dip the frozen apples into the banana-peanut butter sauce
  • Place into mesh feeder and serve

Important Note

  • Make sure your baby does not have a peanut allergy.  

This recipe serves as a healthy and a teething remedy, you can also opt-out apples with different fruits and vegetables, but a mesh feeder should be used to avoid choking hazards.
